Sometimes a specific cancer-prevention tip recommended in a research or news message, and then in the following message again discouraged. If you’re concerned about the prevention of cancer, then it is good to know that small changes in your daily life can make a big difference in the long term.

Consider these further cancer prevention tips.

DON’T USE TABACCO

The use of any kind of tobacco makes the lifetime cancer risk greater. Smoking is linked to different types of cancer-such as cancer of the lung, bladder, cervix and kidney-and chewing tobacco is linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even, when you do not use tobacco, the exposure to the secondhand smoke can increase the risk of lung cancer. The avoidance of tobacco will definitely benefit to your health.

EAT HEALTHY

Although making healthy choices at the grocery store and during the meal the prevention of cancer cannot always guarantee, it can help greatly to reduce the risk of cancer. How do you prevent cancer then? Consider the following guidelines for a healthy diet:

  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables – try your diet with fruits, vegetables and other foods from plant based sources. Also whole grains and beans are good alternatives.
  • Limit the amount of fat – eat lighter and healthier by choosing fewer high-fat foods, especially those from animal sources. High-fat diets are often higher in calories and can increase the risk of being overweight or obese – this in turn increases the risk of cancer. We are talking about vegetable oil such as palm oil. You can easily substitute these for olive or coconut oil.
  • If you choose to drink alcohol, please do so only in moderation. The risk of different types of cancer, including breast cancer, lung, kidney and liver cancer increases with the amount of alcohol that you drink and how often you drink.

MAINTAIN A HEALTHY, STABLE WEIGHT AND ENOUGH EXCERCISE

A maintained healthy weight can reduce the risk of several types of cancer, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon and kidney cancer. Exercising can help as well to control your weight and reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE SUN

In the Netherlands we like the sun but unfortunately it rains quite often. And when the weather is not good, then many people go under the solarium. Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer – and quite easy to avoid.

Use these tips:

  • Avoid midday sun. Stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., which is when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
  • Cover exposed areas. Wear tightly woven, loose fitting clothing use a hat and sunglasses.
  • Invest in a good sun cream. Use enough sunscreen when you are outdoors, and oil yourself more than once a day.
  • Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps. These are just as damaging, as you can imagine.

CARE FOR IMMUNIZATION

How do you further prevent cancer? Cancer prevention also includes protecting yourself from certain viral infections. Talk to your doctor about immunity:

  • Hepatitis b. Hepatitis B can increase the risk of liver cancer. The hepatitis B vaccine is routinely given to infants. It is also advisable for adults who higher risk-like adults who are sexually active but do not have a monogamous relationship.
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that can lead to cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine is available for both men and women who are younger than 26 years and who have gotten the vaccine not as a child.

MAKE EFFORT TO DO YOUR PREVENTION HOMEWORK

Regular self-exams and professional screening for different types of cancer-such as cancer of the skin, intestines, prostate, cervical and breast cancer – increase the chance discovering cancer in the early stage. Early finding, the treatment will probably likely to succeed. Start examining your health from today. The reward will be that you live longer.
